On Monday April 8th, Brevard County will experience a partial solar eclipse from 1:48-4:18. The maximum coverage of the sun will be at 3:04 p.m. This will be the last solar eclipse in North America until 2044. Be careful to avoid distracted drivers during dismissal, and remind your children to never look directly into the sun. You can safely observe the eclipse if you have ISO certified solar eclipse glasses or by making a pinhole projection.

Indialantic Elementary will be taking the following precautions:

1.  Students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade will stay inside during the hours of the solar eclipse (1:30-4:30) as much as possible.  

2.  Students in Fifth and Sixth Grade, with a signed permission slip, will be supervised to view the eclipse with ISO certified solar eclipse glasses.  

3.  If parents want to take kids out of school early, it is requested that this occurs before 1:15.  

Dismissal

1.  Bikers and walkers will be dismissed as usual unless parents have indicated otherwise.  We will make an announcement to remind students to not directly look at the sun.

2.  Students being picked up by a car will be kept inside a classroom until their car comes through the car line.  This will reduce any possibility of a child looking directly at the sun during the eclipse.

This Wednesday, place your order between  4:00 and 8:00 p.m. for carryout or delivery from the Domino's at 1717 South Babcock Street. You can order online or call (321) 768-1445. They offer delivery to homes south of Paradise Boulevard.

All orders will donate 15% to our school, and there are 2 special meal deals for us on spirit night:

1. Meal Deal 1 (MD1) - $11.99 for 1 medium 1 topping and one order of bread twists

2. Meal Deal 2 (MD2) - $21.99 for 2 mediums 2 topping, 16 bread bites, bread twists, and 2-liter.

Every year the school gives out planners that are printed at the district level to grades 3-6.  In years past the parents were charged $2 a planner and the teachers/PTO would have to collect the fee from each individual students.   This is cumbersome task.  All of the other schools beachside have a sponsor pay for the planners and in turn they have an advertisement page in each individual planner.   The school orders 450 planners, and the cost of the planners and a full page color ad in each planner would be a total of $1192.00.

We are excited to be offering this two days a week for the remainder of the school year.  Parents may select a day, Tuesday or Friday, to come and have lunch with their child.  Be sure to arrive a few minutes prior to your child's lunch time.  Parents must have their ID (Driver's License or other approved forms of ID and will sign in through the office.  Students will need to return to class at the regularly scheduled time.  We request parents do not check out their child on Fridays at the end of the lunch period.  Due to limited space, it is important parents sign up if they would like to come and have lunch with their child.  

Parental involvement is so important to the success of Indialantic Elementary!

At our annual Jog-a-thon fundraiser we made more than enough to continue to fund our yearly budget, so at the March PTO meeting we voted to do more school beautification projects with vinyl covers for school windows, music playground landscaping, new curtains on the stage, and another mural on the street side of the media center. There are always more projects to work on, so we would be thrilled if you decide to donate any time.
