Teachers begin instruction at 8:00 a.m., and students will be marked tardy if they are not in their classroom at this time. There is no line in the car loop at 7:40, but those trying to drop off at 7:55 will likely experience a line of cars. The car line does move, and having your child ready to exit the vehicle helps to keep it moving. Please help your child to be relaxed (not rushed) and ready to start the day on time. The morning time in the classroom is important to allow students time to greet their teachers and classmates. Thank you!
Indialantic Elementary is excited to offer parents the opportunity to have lunch with their student on Tuesdays and Fridays! You must sign up in advance on a sign-up genius link. The links will be published in the PTO Newsletter every Sunday at 4:00 p.m.:
Tuesday 9/10: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D45A9AA29A7FBC34-50784873-091024
Friday 9/13: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D45A9AA29A7FBC34-50987704-091324
For the best experience here are some suggestions: Communicate with the teacher that you're coming for lunch. Bring your ID. Be a few minutes early for your child’s scheduled lunch time to check in the front office. Be prepared to eat lunch at the outside picnic tables. Students will only be available for lunch during their regularly scheduled 30-minute lunch time. Students need to report back to the cafeteria before the end of their lunch period. You must always supervise your child during your time.
Dr. Lord is asking for volunteers to help parents check in the front office to have lunch with their student: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D45A9AA29A7FBC34-47275073-front
All students of IE have access to Quaver, our digital music textbook. Quaver offers music theory in the form of games, music creatives (very similar in nature to Garage Band), digital books about many music genres and composers, and of course, the students' very own avatar that they can make look like themselves—or not. Quaver points are available every month for students to download to "shop" for their avatar and music room. To access Quaver, simply go to your child's Launchpad. The app should already be on their dashboard but if it's not, simply search for Quaver and the green Q will show up. When asked for a code, it is NOT asking for a passcode to get into the program. The code is what I have posted in the music room at the beginning of every month for the purpose of getting Quaver points as mentioned above.
The chorus is for students in grades 4-6. Students practice on Thursdays after school (2:30-3:30) and every other Monday morning (7:00-7:45) to prepare for performances throughout the school year. In this class, we will work on vocal technic, performance etiquette and expression, and lots of repertoire. If your child loves to sing this is definitely the class for them. We have several performances lined up for the year.
Beginning and Intermediate Strings class is for students interested in playing orchestral stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello and string bass). Beginning strings is for students in 5th and 6th grade with no prior knowledge of the instrument or of reading music. Beginning students rehearse Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:45. Intermediate strings class is a continuation of beginning strings class or for students who have had one year of strings class or private lessons. Intermediate strings meets after school on Monday and Wednesdays from 2:30-3:20. There are instruments to rent from the school ($50.00/year), or they can be rented from Atlantic Strings in Melbourne.
Permission forms are in the music room for students interested in strings or chorus. If you have more questions about anything music at IE, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Swartout at swartout.linda@brevardschools.org.
After reading a book, students can take Accelerated Reading tests from home. User name is student number. Password is eagle24.
Do you want to know how many points your student’s book is on AR? use Accelerated Reader Bookfinder US - Quick Search (arbookfind.com)

The best preparation for the FAST Test is daily instruction and attendance. On testing days, make sure your student gets a good night of sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, starts the day on a positive note, and arrives on time. Kids should not be discouraged when they get an answer wrong. They should just take their time and do their best. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please do not schedule appointments on testing days. Students with accommodations may be tested on an alternate date due to scheduling.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade uses Renaissance Star Early Literacy, Star Reading, and/or Star Math assessments for the FAST test. After testing is completed, you will be able to find your student's scores on Focus under "Test History." Don't be alarmed if your student gets a 1 or a 2. This test is just a baseline to measure student growth over the year.
For more information on the test design, please visit
https://www.fldoe.org/accountability/assessments/k-12-student-assessment/best/. If you or your student would like to interact with the online testing platform or review FAST ELA Reading and Mathematics sample items at home, sample test materials are available at https://flfast.org/families.html.
If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact Stephanie White at white.stephanie@brevardschools.org or 321-723-2811. For more information about the FAST program, please visit the portal at FLFAST.org.
